Depending on the affected part of the body, it may be cracked and itchy – on the face as well as on the arms and hands, legs and feet. Some women only have this problem during the winter months, others all year round.

You’re probably most interested in what you can do about your dry skin, right? But it makes sense to know the causes first in order to take the right measures.

The reasons for dry skin can vary widely, as you can see from the following examples:

  • Wrong care

Well-intentioned care can backfire if you overdo it. Frequent peelings are just as stressful for your skin as strong dry rubbing. With the choice of your care products you also influence how your skin is doing. Products with preservatives and fragrances can irritate them, degreasing washing gels or normal soaps can intensify the dryness.

  • Too much water

This does not mean that you drink too much, but that you have too much contact with water. This can remove moisture and fat from your skin, especially in combination with the wrong detergents. Maybe you wash your hands very often, bathe or shower for a long time. Regular swimming in chlorinated water can also lead to dry skin.

  • External influences such as heat or cold

If the temperatures are very warm or cold, our skin releases more moisture. In combination with low humidity, it dries out faster. The winter months, in which you alternate between the cold air outside and the warm, dry air indoors, are particularly stressful for your skin.

  • Unilateral diet and / or lack of fluids

A healthy skin needs enough vitamins and minerals. If you do not consume enough of it, this has an immediate effect on your complexion. The same applies to your drinking behavior. So that your skin can get moisture from the inside out, you have to supply it with it. It’s bad if you drink alcohol a lot. On the one hand this leads to a lack of minerals, on the other hand it stimulates sweating. This in turn lets your skin dry out faster.

  • Hormonal fluctuations

Hormones have a big impact on your skin. This is often noticeable not only during puberty, but also during menopause. Dry skin can also occur during pregnancy or as a rule.

  • Mental stress

High stress affects your hormone balance, which in turn affects your skin. Unfortunately, this also applies in the other direction. If you suffer from skin problems, it is a psychological stress that stresses you out – a vicious cycle. In winter, you should also take care to protect your skin as well as possible from the cold, for example by wearing gloves or a scarf.

The following home remedies help with dry skin:

1:- Shower, bathe and wash gently

Instead of hot water, use lukewarm water, which is much gentler. Also try not to shower every day and use gentle washing or shower gels for cleaning. Those that are soap-free and also skin-neutral are particularly suitable. Instead of a bubble bath, you should prefer a moisturizing product, such as a shower oil. And remember to apply lotion to your skin afterwards, preferably with an oil-in-water emulsion.

2:- The right care products

You need care that is moisturizing and moisturizes. A hypoallergenic moisturizer is recommended for dry skin around the eyes. In addition, you should use as little eye makeup as possible to protect the already irritated skin.
Suitable face creams for dry skin are those that are high in fat and also absorb quickly. Make sure that the amount of fat in the cream is higher than the amount of moisture.
The right care products also include a suitable primer for dry skin. This should be moisturizing. If you are unsure about choosing the right product, it is best to get advice in the drugstore or in a pharmacy.

Important: The fewer fragrances and preservatives there are, the better for your skin. Avoid creams with mineral oils (Paraffinum Liquidum). These form a film on the skin and thus interfere with the exchange of moisture.

3:- Use natural means

You can also use what is included as an additive in many creams. These include, for example, argan oil or almond, coconut and macadamia oil, but avocado also helps against dry skin. You can easily make a mask out of it by pureeing it. Then leave it on the relevant skin area for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Olive oil is also nourishing for dry skin. To do this, warm up the required amount in a saucepan or in the microwave, apply it to the affected area and rub it in gently.

4:- Foot or hand bath

Targeted baths are suitable for doing something about dry skin on the feet or hands. To do this, take lukewarm water and add two tablespoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of honey. After you have stirred everything well, bathe your feet or hands in it for about 15 minutes. Then pat them gently dry – do not rub.

5:- An intensive cure

You can do something good for your hands and feet while you sleep. Rub it thickly with coconut oil, then put on thin cotton gloves or socks and let the oil soak in overnight.

6:- Drink, drink, drink

It is not just external care that counts, but also internal care. The most important point is to drink enough. 1.5 liters of unsweetened tea or water would be ideal. It’s best to always have a bottle or thermos on hand that you can quickly access.

Dry skin doesn’t have to be

My skin tends to dry out, especially in winter. I particularly notice it in places like the hip, where the clothes lie and rub. But also on the back my skin starts to itch if I don’t regularly apply lotion and moisturize it. When it comes to care, the right amount is important. A lot doesn’t always help a lot.
