Who doesn’t dream of summer, warm temperatures and a refreshing cocktail in hand? We usually associate this idea with vacation, but why not mix popular cocktails yourself at home? You will see, it is very easy and my popular cocktail recipes always succeed.
Mix alcoholic cocktails yourself
Have you ever dared to try alcoholic cocktails? If not, then maybe you should just do it. Contrary to all assumptions, it’s super easy and you don’t have to stick to my recipes 1: 1. The imagination knows no limits.
If you don’t like something, leave it out or just replace it with something else. These popular drinks are perfect for a cocktail party when friends come to visit or just to conjure up that summery holiday feeling for you.
To get started, you will need a cocktail shaker, depending on which cocktail recipe you want to create. If you don’t have one yet, the best thing to do is to order a beginner’s set, because it also includes a sieve and everything you need for the preparation. I think this set is very recommendable and I use it myself for preparing cocktails.
Refreshing and popular cocktail recipes
Now you can start. However, I still have a few important tips and information for you before I get to the cocktail recipes.
- You basically need ice cubes and things like straws for your cocktails. I don’t mention these in the recipes.
- You can buy all of the ingredients I use in any well-stocked supermarket.
- The quantities given are always for one glass.
- You can either make crushed ice with a machine or, alternatively, pack the ice in a freezer bag and beat it up with a hammer or meat tenderizer.
- The high quality your basic ingredients, the better your cocktail will be.
The Mai Tai is real refreshment on warm summer days and has it all.

The Cuba Libre is also an absolute classic among the refreshing cocktails. It is prepared in no time and is always popular.

Pour the rum over it and top up with cola. If you like, you can add a few more ice cubes.
One of my favorite cocktails is clearly the caipirinha. Thanks to the mixture of sweet cane sugar and tart lime, it is totally refreshing and a popular classic at cocktail parties.
6 cl Cachaca
2 teaspoons cane sugar (brown)
1 lime, possibly a little lime juice
First we quarter the lime and add it to the glass together with the sugar.
Then mix with a pestle and squeeze the juice out of the lime. Now fill up with the cachaca and stir well. Then fill the glass with crushed ice and mix everything well with a spoon. The easiest way to do this is to dip the spoon into your glass and cover the opening with the palm of your hand.
If the lime doesn’t have enough juice, you can just add a little extra lime juice.
The strawberry margarita is my favorite type of margarita. So deliciously fruity and at the same time totally tasty and refreshing. You should definitely try it.
2 cl Cointreau
2 cl tequila
2 cl lemon juice
4 cl strawberry syrup
Put all the ingredients in the blender until the strawberries are nice and fine. Now pour the contents of the mixer into a shaker filled with crushed ice and shake well.
Then pour into your cocktail glass and serve immediately.
Sex on the Beach Cocktail
Sex on the Beach is another fruity candidate that is perfect for the warm season. Refreshment and a holiday feeling are guaranteed with this cocktail.
4 cl vodka
2 cl peach liqueur
2 cl lemon juice
1 cl grenadine
4 cl orange juice
4 cl pineapple juice
Pour all ingredients into the shaker and mix vigorously. Then fill the glass with ice cubes and pour the cocktail over it.
Decorate cocktail glasses nicely
On the one hand, of course, the content of our glasses is the eye-catcher. But to get a nice overall picture, we should decorate our cocktail glasses a little. I will now show you a few ways how you can put the finishing touches to your summer cocktail using the simplest means.
- Sugar edge
Take two flat dishes. Fill one with a little lemon juice and the other with sugar. Now you take your cocktail glass and pour it with the opening into the lemon juice. Gently move it back and forth a few times. Then you dip the upper edge of the glass into the sugar. Now it sticks and just looks really nice. Make sure to use a straw with this variant, because drinking directly from a glass with a sugar rim is not so pleasant and it distorts the taste of the cocktail.
- Fruits, leaves, flowers
Instead of the sugar you can of course decorate with a few fruits. Just take a fruit that goes with the cocktail and cut it lightly so that you can clamp it to the edge of the glass. But be careful when cutting, if you cut too deep, the fruit will no longer hold on to the edge of the glass.
Mint leaves or a few pretty, edible flowers can also enhance the look of your summer cocktail.
- Umbrellas & Co.
If you find fruit or sugar rim too boring and not very summery for you, you can pimp your cocktail even further by sticking a small umbrella, a small palm tree or something similar into the fruit. There is even more summer feeling.
There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to cocktail decorations.
Exceptional serving suggestions for summer cocktails
Usually the cocktail is served classically in a suitable glass and decorated. But why not just try something out of the ordinary? For example, you could hollow out a watermelon and serve your summer cocktail in it, or in a pineapple. This is guaranteed to make your guests look big.
Despite the many delicious recipes, one should always pay attention to a responsible use of alcohol. Like everywhere else, the crowd makes the poison and no one says anything about a cocktail now and then.
