Many experience that the sofa looks greasy after a while. What magic bullet do to prevent this, and it pays to the couch impregnate? That’s exactly what I want to show you in this post.
How can the microfiber couch be cleaned?
Microfiber is an extremely easy-care material, which is why many like to have a couch made of this fabric. Basically, if there are no stains, etc. to be cleaned, dry cleaning with a vacuum cleaner is sufficient. Ideally, you have a vacuum cleaner attachment for upholstered furniture and can easily remove crumbs, fluff or even animal hair.
But what if you spilled and the microfiber couch now has stains? Then a cleaning agent is needed. Fortunately, there is an insider tip here. The miracle cure has 99% in the house. You will soon find out what it is and how you can use it to remove stains from the microfiber couch, but first for classic dry cleaning.
Tip: When damp cleaning the couch, it is worth cleaning the whole couch so that the stain removed is not cleaner than the rest and therefore settles.
Cleaning the microfiber sofa: vacuum cleaner
A vacuum cleaner is usually sufficient to keep the microfiber couch clean. You only need this
- Vacuum cleaner and
- Upholstery cleaning attachment.
Cleaning is then very simple:
- Clear the couch and set aside all pillows, etc.
- Put the upholstery for the upholstered furniture on the vacuum cleaner and carefully clean the microfiber couch.
- Then remove the upholstery attachment and use the pipe to clean the cracks.
- The couch is now vacuumed. If you like, you can still put the pillowcases in the washing machine.
Clean stained and greasy microfiber couch
If the vacuum cleaner is no longer sufficient because the sofa is stained or greasy, then we have to resort to other means. There are special cleaning agents for cleaning the microfiber couch.
However, stains can also be cleaned with the glass cleaner. You need:
- Clear glass cleaner (no blue or the like)
- 2 microfiber towels
Spray the stain with glass cleaner. Dab gently over the stain
with a microfiber cleaning cloth.
Take the second microfiber cloth and the hair dryer.
Always use the rag to gently wipe in from the edge of the stain while pointing the hair dryer at least 20 cm away from the stain.
It is very easy to remove stains such as pens, juice, adhesive residues, chocolate stains or even felt-tip pens.
Nevertheless, I always recommend: Before you go to the stain, try on an inconspicuous area of your sofa to see how the fabric reacts to the glass cleaner.
Alternatives to glass cleaner for microfiber sofa
You don’t have a glass cleaner on hand or don’t want to use it for other reasons? Then there are of course a few effective alternatives:
- Special microfiber cleaner ,
- Furniture shampoo ,
- distilled water,
- Bile soap ,
- soft brush
ATTENTION! Never treat the microfibre couch with a steam cleaner!
If you have a bright microfiber couch, then you can remove the stains sometimes also an eraser try.
Disadvantage of damp or wet cleaning: couch gets stained more quickly
If your microfiber couch is new, then it has a protective layer, which is why it doesn’t get dirty so quickly. Every time you clean your sofa, or wet with a microfiber cloth or brush, you remove parts of this protective layer. Because of this, it can happen that the couch gets dirty faster and faster over time, because dirt can penetrate deeper into the fiber without this protection and then become more difficult to clean. But you can do something about it.
Impregnate microfiber sofa
To give the couch a protective layer, you should also give it a little care after cleaning. This is very straightforward with a special waterproofing spray.
Proceed as follows to impregnate your microfiber sofa:
- Clean the sofa with a vacuum cleaner.
- Clean with distilled water and a microfiber cloth.
- Let dry for 24 hours.
- Apply impregnation spray according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
This process should be repeated every 6 months so that the microfiber couch is perfectly impregnated and protected.
Couch cover as protection against stains
Anyone who has bought a rather expensive couch or just want to avoid stains that could to prevent a bed covering access. These are now available in all imaginable colors and shapes. So the stain does not get on the sofa immediately, but ends up on the cover. This can be easily cleaned in the washing machine and the sofa stays clean. On the one hand, you enjoy it longer and if you want to sell your couch, you can also get a higher price.
Whether you want to clean your microfiber couch or protect it right from the start is entirely up to you. Impregnation is definitely recommended if you don’t want to use a coating.
A little tip at the end: If your couch was really expensive and you don’t dare to do it yourself, you can now hire a company to clean the microfiber couch.
